Karen Stanley BA Hons PGCE MSc
My name is Karen Stanley and I have been a class teacher and Assistant Headteacher for around 20 years. I have worked in several schools - particularly in areas of deprivation - and am adept at using a creative approach to engage 'hard to reach' pupils or those from vulnerable groups.
I am a writer and have published eight books to date - in the genres of women's fiction and children's stories and poetry. I have run creative writing workshops in schools, libraries, book shops, adult education centres and fostering organisations.
I am passionate about the creativity behind the writing process, and have always strived to allow my learners to play to their strengths. I believe that, to be truly inclusive as educators, we need to allow young people to use their talents, give them opportunities to pursue the things they are good at - or that they have a passion for- and to really understand that when learning, once size does certainly NOT fit all!
I have an MSc in Environmental Conservation and have delivered many outreach sessions on water conservation and environmental themes.
I have written a plethora of educational materials, schemes of work, and focused texts for corporate and educational establishments. I am a massive advocate of the benefits of hands-on learning and of the power of nature and the environment to really boost our creativity and emotional well-being.
Learning should bring fulfilment, a sense of achievement, satisfaction and a boost to the confidence. It should make your heart feel full...
But above all of this, and most important of all....LEARNING SHOULD BE FUN!

The farmyard animals have just about had enough of this angry old goose as he chases, squawks and hisses so they resolve to teach him a lesson he won't forget!
Written in rhyme.
I had a wonderful time writing this book about a river that is under threat and how a group of intrepid children fight to save it from sabotage. This book is a great hook for a topic on rivers with lots of follow up activities and comprehension questions.
